It's great that you are adding new themes all the time, but I am not sure of the utility of giving them names since we cannot see the name associated with the themes in the design/themes list, nor can we search for themes by name. That leaves us to cruise through the themes and GUESS if the one we are looking at is the one in the blog post. In the older interface we could at least see the name if we clicked on the theme icon, but not any more. Consider putting that back?

This is what my students identified in my Websites Made Easy With Weebly course this week - the theme previews are very confusing because a) they lack names b) one can no longer favourite them and c) because it would be easier to see the differences between themes if they all used the same pictures. A description of each theme's features would also be handy.

Yeah, I agree this is kind of inconvenient. But I've found that you can just sort the themes by newest first, makes it a lot easier to kind of "guess" which one you're looking for.

Hello,
I like the BRISK theme that is ideal for business and personal branding online. However, I would change the color scheme to light blue. In fact, the color scheme depends on the niche of your company. Anyway, I like the white strips at the top and bottom of the design. White is the best color I know, even for online designs. Cheers!

If you shrink the width of your browser, a Responsive Design site will automatically adapt to the size of the window. Page items will automatically stack vertically to fit the window width and image items will shrink accordingly. In particular, at a small enough width, you should see the mobile navigator appear in place of the standard navigator. Since none of this behavior is evident with either of these themes, they're not Responsive.

These themes use parts of the background image for the header area rather than separate images/slideshows, so to use a header slideshow you'd need to use another theme.

And by you saying using another theme, you are referring to all the older themes right. Cause as far as I understand none of the new ones that have been developed over the past year support a slideshow in the header section.

Thanks weebly for the new additions, I know it takes a lot of work but, why keep releasing non-responsive themes? nobody is interested in making new websites that are not responsive anymore.

I disagree. I have an entire site of writers who are using Weebly to back up their writing. We took a poll and people actually offered to donate money to keep the site running if we DIDN'T go responsive. Not everyone cares for the look of responsive sites. Please keep in mind that there are people on both sides of the fence, and companies should cater to both :)

Please could you consider a new page layout with a universal sidebar across the site, it would really help me with communicating information to my audience as well as being able to serve a single advert that I can remove without having to go through all 300+ of my pages! Cheers Weebly.

You can do this yourself to any theme or page by adding a custom piece of code to the HTML file. This is unknown to most current tech support people so don't bother asking them. They will just say that they don't support custom code, but this is built into the Weebly system. In any HTML file in the Design tab you will see tags like {header} {content} and {footer}. Those are the targets for the work you do in the editor. You can add another content area by adding one in the format: {area-name:content} where "area-name" is any unique name you want to assign. "content" tells it to be a drag-n-drop zone. By default the content will appear on every page. To make the content unique on each page add global="false" after content, like this: {area-name:content global="false"} Without that it acts like the footer and anything you add appears on all pages of that HTML style. Jim, just one caveat: the custom HTML tags do not render in Weebly's mobile view (for non-Responsive site themes). This might be okay if a custom tag is used to house a sidebar navigator (because the mobile navigator can still be used to navigate to pages that would be in a sidebar navigation repeater). For an ad content sidebar like what Kazim wants, he'll need to be aware that, should he be using a standard (non-Responsive) Weebly page theme, his ad will not be visible on any pages.

Yes, I discovered this morning that they don't show in mobile view, but for responsive themes and viewing the web version on a phone they should, but I haven't tested it. It is still a handy tag. In older themes you can even place the content zone outside the normal content in the sidebands. Of course, for that matter, you can also add full HTML code outside the normal content areas and that will also appear on all pages of that HTML style.

Hi, Jim, how do I make a sidebar on each page, that I can set properly? I want body text width 650 px/ sidebar 290px. Total width of the Brisk template is 960 px, so I keep some for space in between. I don't wanna use Spacer. I want this set and learn how to make a sidebar on every Weebly template. This keeps the page lay-outs of both blog and normal pages consistent with each other. Jim, do you know if it's possible to do a slide show on the background of on of the Weebly splash page templates? Also having issues with the banner images on the template I'm using. I've got the image with the proper pixel counts, and it looks fine on mobile devices, but on a computer the image seems too large.

Without knowing which theme I cannot comment intelligently on adding slide shows over the background. Higher up here there is a post from Weebly saying that slide show support was dropped from the header for the fully responsive themes. If your theme is one of the new ones, then adding a slide show might be tough.

I'm a hand coder from way back so I know that pretty much anything is possible by altering the HTML and CSS, but you would have to use a javascript based slide show that can be set to any shape and size, and then you could place it in a <div> block and float the div over the page using positioning statements and a high z-index value. HOWEVER, anything you do like that could cripple the responsiveness in some way and it may go to pieces on mobile devices. If it is an older theme then it is more forgiving.

As far as banner size goes, I always recommend that you design for the desktop PC first, and then tweak as necessary for the mobile views. You can change the size of the banner space in the CSS file.

I believe all the Weebly themes are responsive. I have many websites built with the new templates and haven't had one issue on any device. Some of the new templates will not allow you to preview in the mobile editor - but I believe that is because it is fully responsive.

Nick, this is incorrect. All Weebly themes are not Responsive. Responsive Design allows a site to fluidly adapt its page layouts to the device on which the site is being viewed. You can demonstrate this behavior on the desktop by shrinking the width of your browser window. A Responsive site will automatically adapt the page contents to fit the reduced window width (columnar items will restack vertically, image items will shrink to fit the window width, the site navigator will switch to a mobile navigator when the window is small enough, etc.). Weebly's non-Responsive themes all have a mobile (really, a smartphone) view and will show this only when viewed on mobile devices like smartphones and tablets. The disadvantage of this approach is that a smartphone view is not ideal on most tablets (tablet screens are large enough that not everything needs to be stacked vertically especially when used in landscape orientation). Weebly addresses this by having a mobile/desktop switch in the footer of the site. Responsive Design sites are a superior approach because their page layouts can be customized for different device classes (i.e., the desktop view can be different from the table view which can be different from the smartphone view) and will even accommodate portrait or landscape device orientation.

Not all themes are what is considered "fully responsive". The older ones have a fixed width for the content area and that never change when the browser is resized. To find out whic are full responsive, preview the theme and the resize the browser width smaller and smaller and what what the theme does. Fully responsive themes will change the design continuously, often moving menus or making them hidden behind a single button. The header image will also resize in many of the responsive themes.

New templates are looking awesome. Good work!

I do have some suggestions:

- Add more choice for headings in the editor. So also H1 and H3. This is important for SEO and for the overall typographic design of a webpage.

- Add option for a sidebar for each page. So the lay-out of a normal pages is consistent with the lay-out of a blog page. I think this helps a lot of users create much more appealing websites.

- Make blog paragraph width and sidebar width flexible. Often text-area's are too wide.

- Much improvement of the design and looks of websites will come from use of good typography. I think Weebly has a lot to win there. Add more fonts options (from Google) and even add some commercial fonts for Pro- and Business users. And also H1 and H3 must be available. Also blog comments sections are poorly designed (and often in a different font then used in the rest of the website).

Anyhow, Weebly is really improving and I like Weebly a lot! But above issues are some of the things I come across every day...

I see new designs coming out but I am losing patience waiting for promised updates to commerce features.

* Stores still load with most recent products at the back of a site which is a huge problem for large stores.
* There is no way for someone viewing your site to choose how they want to view products such as 'most recent, price etc.'
* We still have no way of submitting products to Google Shopping or creating a CSV file of our products.

These are standard features on other commerce sites in the same price range as Weebly. If Weebly wants to compete with other providers they need to update their commerce. As it stands I will still not recommend it to others when asked.

Templates are nice but I feel there needs to be more focus on what the majority of the cost to have a Weebly site is going towards.

Really love the new additions! I actually use weebly to create websites for clients. They love it. The CSS style sheet that weebly provides lets me make them their own themes from the ones yall offer. It is very annoying that Weebly is pushing out new themes that are not responsive when that is becoming the norm everywhere else. The mobile version site doesn't work that well and its very important to get websites looking on mobiles. So Weebly please please reponsive themes otherwise I am moving on as there are plenty of exciting options.

I have big problems with the mobile version as well. The header images aren't visible and dependant on the chosen site layout the font color makes the text unreadable in the mobile view. Very big problem for our client!

JEEZ folks. Read up higher before commenting. They ARE responsive themes. All you have to do to determine that is display one on your site, then grab the right edge of your browser window and slowly drag the width of the browser down smaller and smaller and watch what the page does. Things start jumping around and compacting and finally switching from drop down menus to a vertical menu behind a "hamburger' button. That is the sign of a responsive theme. Then ... if you select a responsive theme, turn OFF the editor settings option to display the mobile version. Why? Because that option is for converting NON-responsive themes for phone viewing. If you are using a responsive theme, it is ALREADY capable for phones. If you leave the mobile option ON, then a responsive theme will look like junk on a phone because Weebly is trying to treat it as a non-responsive theme and then lots of the theme won't even show up.

Jim, I don't think that is the case. First thing I did when I saw the the themes was exactly the same on their demo sites and it doesn't work, the menu doesn't collapse. Unless I am doing something wrong I don't think the themes r responsive.

LOL ... I should have said, "Generically speaking, all you have to do is ...". The browser resizing test does work.

I was testing many themes for responsiveness in one sitting and found many that are and since they do not display the names on the list of themes, who the heck knows which ones I was on. They need to put back the freakin names or at least a flag that marks it as responsive.

But it is true that if you chose a responsive theme, and the mobile view option is still selected, then when you view it on a phone, it is all screwed up. You have to disable mobile view with responsive themes so that the phone displays the web version which happens to be already phone capable. This is another thing that Weebly should do automatically is disable mobile view when a responsive theme is selected. Or at least document it or throw up a reminder box so we don't think the theme is just junk.

Fun fact: Does anyone realize that "fully responsive themes" were the norm in the 80's and 90's? Yup. web pages were usually table driven back then with the width set as a percentage. Ironically those old sites work on phones just fine. Then later someone decided that page content should be fixed width with dead bands on both sides. The pendulum of design constantly swings back and forth. ;-)

Brisk and Aroma are not responsive. Fully tested with the mobile version option turned off. No responsiveness when changing browser size or when viewing on mobile phone.

They are great looking themes, but as they are not responsive I will not be using them. Unfortunate.

Yes, all of our themes (including Aroma) have Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest buttons on individual product pages.

Well ... you can save the current theme under any name, then try the new one. To go back just reload the saved theme.

Go to the Design tab, click "Edit HTML/CSS", click Save, give it a name. Then go try a new theme. To revert, go to the Design tab, click Change Theme, click Custom Themes, select the theme name that you saved.
