document.write('Waldorf School plans ‘forest kindergarten’ : Saturday, March 28, 2009: By Lee Coleman,  Gazette Reporter: SARATOGA SPRINGS — A local private school will launch an all-outdoors “forest kindergarten” this fall designed to bring children closer to nature and make them healthier in the process. The Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs is modeling its forest kindergarten — in which the children are outside most of the day, year-round — on successful, long-standing programs in Denmark and other European countries. “There is a national movement to get children outside,” said Katherine Scharff, administrative manager of the Waldorf School. She said children who are inside playing computer games and watching television most of the day develop what best-selling author Richard Louv calls a “nature deficit disorder.” These indoor-bound children can’t identify such natural things as beetles, oak trees, acorns and common forest animals. They are also in need of exercise and fresh air, Louv argues in his book, “Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature Deficit Disorder.”The Waldorf School is about to finalize a lease of forested land in Saratoga Springs where it will hold its forest kindergarten. School officials can’t identify the property yet, but it includes a “farmhouse on many acres,” Scharff said. To read the rest of this article link to: Waldorf Forest');

What it’s really about, she says, is the art of education, and Waldorf precepts have been around for over 100 years. As a matter of fact, she reported, the Gates Foundation recently funded a new Waldorf-based high school on the strength of research evidence reflecting the rigor and quality of a Waldorf education. document.write('by Lori Arizumi  Posted on January 22, 2009:After years of dissension and division in the Niu Valley community it appears that a resolution may have been settled over the Waldorf High School expansion.Expansion proponents and opposing neighbors have been at odds over the proposed addition to the Niu Valley campus of Waldorf Preschool and Elementary School to include their high schoolers on the same campus. The high school classes have been held in leased buildings in Kahala. However, that lease is due to expire in 2011 and school officials state that the classes have outgrown that capacity in any event.In a precipitous occurrence, the Transpacific Hawaii College on Kalanianaole Highway (adjacent to Aina Haina) announced they were closing their school due to declining enrollment and other financial difficulties.The location, facility and proximity to the campus in the valley made that closure a fairly golden opportunity for Waldorf. In a letter to parents, which also cited the need for a capital campaign to pay for the venture, it was announced that the new school would purchase the lease on the former two-year liberal arts college in February 2009, and begin classes in August for the 2009-2010 school year.To Read More Click HERE');
